More than inclusion: Creating a place to belong
Creating a place to Belong
Everyone deserves to feel like they belong. It’s a fundamental human need to be seen, heard, and accepted for who we are. At QLS, we believe that support goes far beyond practical assistance. It’s about creating an environment where people feel safe, valued, and genuinely connected to those around them.
From the very first interaction, we focus on building a space that feels warm, inclusive, and inviting. Whether someone is walking through our doors for the first time or connecting with us in the community, we want them to feel comfortable, respected, and supported. Small things like a friendly smile, a listening ear, and a judgement-free approach can make a big difference in helping someone feel at ease.
Connection is at the heart of belonging. We take the time to get to know everyone – their interests, goals, and what matters most to them. By building genuine, trusting relationships with participants and their support networks, we create a strong foundation where people feel understood and empowered. It’s not just about providing a service, it’s about walking alongside people and celebrating their journey.
Belonging also comes from feeling part of a community. Through group activities, shared experiences, and meaningful community involvement, individuals can connect with others, try new things, and build confidence. Whether it’s a social outing, a creative activity, or simply spending time together, these moments help create lasting connections and a sense of purpose.
How QLS Builds Connect, Inclusion and Belonging
At QLS we create opportunities for people to connect, participate and feel part of something bigger through a range of activities and supports including:
- Fortnightly connect programs that bring people together in a fun welcoming environment
- Community outings to local attractions, cafes, events and activities that encourage social interaction and participation.
- Group activities and workshops where participants can develop new skills while building new friendships
- Celebrations and special events that create shared experiences and lasting memories
- Volunteering and community participation opportunities that promote inclusion and contribution.
- Peer connections that encourage participants to build meaningful relationships with others who share similar interests.
- Individualised community access supports tailored to each person’s goals and hobbies
- A person centred approach where every individual is valued, respected and supported to make choices about how they spend their time.
These opportunities help people build confidence, strengthen social skills, develop independence and create genuine connections within their community.
At QLS we know that when people feel connected they are more likely to thrive. A sense of belonging can improve wellbeing, reduce feelings of isolation and help individuals build the confidence to pursue their goals and live a life of their choosing.
Because belonging isn't just important it’s essential.
