TAKING TIME TO RECHARGE

Respite

Respite care options and benefits for every stage of care

We understand that supporting a family member with a disability can be both rewarding and, at times, challenging. Taking time to rest and recharge is important for everyone, and respite provides that opportunity.

We offer a range of flexible respite options to support both individuals and their families. This can include shorter periods of support, such as a few hours or a weekend, through to longer stays over several weeks.

Respite can be provided in the home or in supported accommodation, depending on what feels right for you and your family.

We work closely with you to ensure respite feels comfortable and minimally disruptive, recognising that this can be an important and sometimes difficult decision.

If you are considering more ongoing or full-time support, respite can be a helpful first step. It allows you to explore what this might look like, understand the benefits and consider what works best for you, your family and the person being supported.

  • Carer Respite

Carer respite offers an opportunity for carers to take a well-deserved break from the demands of supporting a loved one. We can assist in organising respite and exploring available funding options, or work alongside referrals from other agencies and organisations. Respite can range from a few hours through to several weeks, depending on individual needs. It is often planned in advance, allowing carers to take time to rest, recharge and plan ahead with confidence.

  • Emergency Respite

Emergency respite is available when unexpected situations arise, such as illness within the family or a breakdown in existing support arrangements. In these moments, having the right support in place is essential. We have trained staff and accommodation options available to respond quickly and provide the care and support needed. We also work alongside funding bodies to deliver emergency support such as STA or MTA respite.  Services are funded via Wellways Commonwealth Carer respite, NDIS and NIISQ as well as short-term emergency support for children with disabilities in partnership with Child Safety.

  • Vacational Respite

Vacational respite offers the opportunity to step away from everyday routines and enjoy new experiences. It is typically planned in advance and is usually self-funded, with clients and stakeholders involved in choosing destinations and activities. We provide support based on individual needs, whether one-on-one or in a group setting, helping each person feel comfortable and confident throughout their time away. These experiences are designed to be enjoyable, engaging and, at times, provide opportunities for learning and personal growth. Vacation respite is usually between two and seven days, with accommodation and transport included.
